The Angel Inn

One of the most historic restaurants in Niagara-On-The Lake is the Angel Inn. Located right in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, this pub and Inn was built in 1789 and rebuilt in 1816 after the war of 1812. There is a local legend that Captain Colin Swayze haunts the Inn. After hiding from a surprise invasion by the Americans, Captain Swayze hid in a barrel, only to be killed while the Americans searched the Inn. It is said that Captain Swayze will remain happy as long as the British Flag flies over the Inn. The restaurant is a typical British pub that has great food and a great atmosphere. To learn more about the Inn, the hours, and directions, visit their website: www.angel-inn.com/index.php

Country Fresh

This next local favourite is definitely a place no one would think to go in if they drove by. Country Fresh is a small diner located on the corner of Victoria Ave. and Jepson St. in downtown Niagara Falls. Although the outside is not exactly eye candy, this small restaurant has the most amazing won-ton soup that you will find in Niagara. Walk in at anytime, and you will see that everyone there is enjoying the atmosphere and especially the food. The wonton soup is homemade and served with hot sauce to either eat-in or take out. Country fresh is open 24/7 which makes a perfect after hours snack. With their low prices and friendly staff, Country Fresh is a place for everyone to love.

The Syndicate

Arguably one of the best restuarants in the city, the Syndicate offers delicious meals at great prices and a great atmosphere. The real specialty of the Syndicate though is that they brew their own beer on site. Still quite new in town, it has a great reputation and the restaurant is packed every night. Reservations are highly recommended! If someone would like to travel a little bit further out of the city, the Syndicate has just recently opened their second location about fifteen minutes away in St.Catharines.  For more information about this wonderful restaurant and their sister restaurant, Taps Brewery, visit their website: http://syndicatebrewery.ca

Avondale Dairy

Right off the QEW about fifteen minutes from Niagara Falls is a small local Dairy Bar. They serve over forty delicious flavours including no sugar added ice cream and frozen yogurts. Founded in 1931 Avondale Dairy is a family owned farm that has built up from a small store to selling their ice cream in stores all over the Niagara region. Two of my personal favourite flavours are "Cake Batter" and "Death by Caffeine".
