Decew Falls

A little outside of the city, there is a wonderful nature area for people who like adventure. Located in Thorold, about a 10 minute drive from Niagara is a place called DeCew falls. With two large waterfalls and a swimming hole, its sort of like you are escaping to a different country, something that you wouldn't believe would be so close to suberbia. To get to this secret getaway, you must first repel down a steep hill, holding tightly onto a large rope. Although it is public, I reccommend only people who aren't  afraid of getting dirty or a little scraped up should go.

Enjoy!

City Skyline

Probably one of my favourite places in Niagara, the first spot on my list is one not too many people know about. It might even be one of the best views of the Niagara skyline there is. Located across the street from Dufferin Islands this is a place not marked off to the public, although there is a faint hint of trail. The city controls the flow of water going over the falls, and at some points during the day it's lower than usual, which means rocks are exposed where the river usually runs. At these select times, you can look out onto the water and see the most gorgeous view of Niagara there is. Here are some pictures of what this secret spot looks like in the day, as well as at night.

P.S If you have never been to Dufferin Islands I strongly suggest you go. It's located right down the street from the falls, on the Niagara Parkway. Its a lovely place to walk around and have a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Fallsview area.

Hidden Gems

In every town there are those places where only the locals go, where you can enjoy your favourite meal for low prices, or go for afternoon walks with your best friends. Living in Niagara Falls, people would assume that the only thing to do is go on the Maid of the Mist or stroll down Clifton Hill. Fortunately this isn't the case. Many tourists come to Niagara Falls and think that the whole city is containted in the Fallsview area, although that is just one small piece of it. While growing up, i've become accustomed to many beautiful and interesting places Niagara has to offer. Many of these places are ones that only locals would know. To me, I feel that these places should be showed off, and exposed to many people around the world. I want people to experience what I experience on a daily basis, the wonder that is the Niagara Region. This blog is dedicated to all those local restaurants, and outdoor activities that everyone should know about.
